In the beginning…

I met Koda and immediately after that I started riding motorcycles a lot less. I started doing a lot more things that he could join me on. Around this time, I just bought my first Tacoma. It was a 2003 access cab 2WD. It had a hole in the block so I had to have the engine replaced. After a bit of work, it was running and me and koda were driving it around everywhere. The best experience in that truck was It was the first time I took it “off-road” in Joshua Tree. Seeing Koda’s happy face hanging out the window with his tongue flapping all over the place while you could hear gravel crunching under the tires… It was the best. I was asking myself why I never got into this sooner.

It wasn’t long until I wanted to start posting our memories somewhere, and what better way than to use Instagram. We needed a name and it was almost immediately that I went, “Oh! Koda’s Tacoma!” And started laughing. The reason being is that every time I left him in the truck, he would sit in the driver’s seat and it would look like he was driving it. I got too lazy to think of anything else, so that became the name. We’re always open to suggestions though haha.

We dove into this “overland” thing pretty heavily. I use that term loosely because it can mean many different things to different people. I just like to camp in places with my truck. If that’s overlanding, then we love it. We quickly realized that 2WD was not the way to go about this and it really wasn’t long before our 2WD Tacoma was sold and we found the truck that we’re known for now. It came outfitted with very tasteful mods by a very reputable guy named Shane. He’s awesome and I’m so glad that timing was on our side because we love this truck. It works for everything we’re trying to do. We’ve been to many places, thanks to this truck, but I feel that we’ve barely scratched the surface.

There’s really not a whole lot to our story, but there’s a more in-depth article on Expedition Portal that I’ll link here. Feel free to check that out if you feel like it.
